Vocabulary Words

Every Tuesday in class I will give you 15 vocabulary words, which you will be tested on during class on the following Thursday. Every Thursday in class, I will give you an additional 15 words that you will be tested on during class on the following Tuesday. I may increase the number of words as the weeks go on, since vocabulary will be very important on the SAT.

In addition to the in-class vocabulary words, I will post 5 additional words each day, Monday through Friday. These WILL NOT appear on the in-class tests.

Today’s words:

1. adroit — skillful
The girl was adroit at keeping track of her studies.

2. precursor — predecessor
The new principal’s precursor was an excellent educator.

3. resolute — determined, unwavering
The school president was resolute in her demand for financial assistance for low-income students.

4. intemperate — excessive
5. curtailed — reduced or cut short
The intemperate internet surfing by the employees led to their access to the computers being curtailed.
